Keeping Cool With Culottes

For warm summer months, we think about clothes that look and feel cool; airy and loose…clothes that get a bit of circulation and don’t feel stuffy. However, we don’t want to go to work wearing a muumuu. If you feel you’re in the habit of wearing the same black work pants, a great trend to try is the culotte pant. There are many options made of lighter materials so that you can stay cool while still looking stylish. Culotte pants have a fuller leg to provide circulation but have the perfect length to keep you cool on warm days.

Not sure how to style the top half? Buy a jumpsuit that has a culotte bottom like this Ted Baker version. For work, you’ll want to throw on a light blazer or cardigan, and you can easily transition this jumpsuit from the workplace to happy hour.

Summer is also the time to bring out your whites. Pair a white culotte with a colorful top or something printed. Try to pair with a more fitted top to tuck in so as to not overwhelm your frame since the pants are flowy. If color is not your forte, be sure to check out tips on wearing color here. If you want to take this trend one step further, try experimenting with a printed pair to really celebrate the summer season.

For something a little more traditional, go with a culotte pant that’s a neutral color like gray, navy or black. This way you can still experiment with the new silhouette without venturing too far from your comfort zone. Pair with a closed toe pump and you’re ready for a more professional or corporate environment.
